Today is your lucky day mes cher amis,the bloke in the photograph who looks like Wild Bill Hickock is Oscar nominated documentary film maker Adrian Belic. He was nominated for GHENGHIS BLUES, and his new film BEYOND THE CALL is ringing bells at film festivals worldwide.
Adrian is a complex personality, a film director with a social conscience. He conspires with his lead actor, Sir Edward Antic, to change society. Antic was knighted by the Templars ie Knights of Malta for his charitable deeds .
BEYOND THE CALL follows Antic and his compadres as he travels the third world bringing medicine, money , and educational tools to the poor in lands as diverse as Afghanistan or the Phillipines. They are throwbacks to Americans of a bygone age. The sole reward is the smiles on the faces of the children whose lives they empower, and the love of the poor who bond with them. Small wonder this film is enlightening audiences worldwide. It caused a modest sensation at The Bangkok Intl Film Fest last summer.
Adrian and Edward continue to fight the good fight, unlike the rudderless Americans today who have lost their moral compass, besotted by fast food and the extravagant deceptions employed by the white power elite to whom oil begets unjust war. The ouevre of Belic represents a force for truth and compassion in a world gone way wrong. They are good men in a society hijacked by greed. Decent blokes who enjoy a drink, the companionship of women, motorcycles and rock and roll. They just want a level playing field for the impoverished societies the industrialized nations sweep under the carpet. Bonne chance mes freres, a la prochaine, until we meet again – happy trails.
All work and no play makes jack a dull boy , so I roll out into the heart of darkness, the entertainment area of Sukumvit bordered by Nana to Soi Cowboy. The night is sultry, a half moon rides across a sky of stars. Demimondaines sit outside the clubs of Soi Cowboy enticing punters inside.
I enter the Dollhouse A-GO -GO. Darel the owner greets me and we booze,schmooze and check out the gorgeous birds. Darel is also a champion sky diver, and much of his clientele are advocates of the sport. The atmosphere is electric, if the devil were here to cast his net all Hades would be full up.
I drink up and go across the road to Suzie Wong. No mercy baby, no rest for the wycked . The joint is rockin to heavy metal, the girls here have the sword and sorcery look. The vodka tastes like rubbing alcohol. I pretend to drink as the girls clamber onto the stage for the inevitable faux sex show. Time to blow this popcorn stand.
Voodoo chile hits the road, there is still time to suss out Q Bar. A blonde Russian woman accosts me. Tanya is Ukrainian, from Kiev with electric blue eyes and a smashing figure.
Tanya makes me an offer I cannot refuse . We stroll hand in hand to a taxi . I order the driver to take us to my crib.
Voodoo chile does not kiss and tell , so that dear readers is another story for another day.
